“Hello, I’m Melody Dia, a proud Nyul Nyul/Kija woman, born into a big Broome family. I’m a mother; sister; aunty; friend and writer. My children and my family inspire me every day. Broome is multicultural and a unique place, where everyone knows you and which family you come from. I’ve worked in pubs/kitchens, classrooms, mine-sites and offices. I currently work in aged care, supervising care plans of our Elders who live in remote communities. I’ve written poetry and short stories since childhood and fell in love with Shakespeare at school. Since 2014 I’ve been participating in an Indigenous writing program at Goolarri Media learning writing for the stage. We’ve had the privilege of learning from some of Australia’s leading theatre and film artists. FIFO was work-shopped with Yirra Yaakin and PWA in 2016, and more recently in Broome with actors Ningali Lawford and Jub Clerc. I'm also a contributing writer to a joint script being created by a group of Goolarri writers, which is fun and helping to develop my skills further. My dream is to keep writing plays for the stage.” - Melody Dia, 2019
