Healing Scars by Warren Mason
Yuwalaaraay/Yorta Yorta composer and performer Warren Mason of Tin Camp Studios loops the natural sounds of his homeland, haunting tune of his guitar, the spoken word of multiple languages and singing styles of his old people. Creating an intricate tapestry of sound interwoven with movement choreography by Jasmine Gulash (Gubbi Gubbi), performed by senior dance women Jo Clancy (Wiradjuri) and Aunty Bronwyn Spearim-Hoy (Gomeroi), tracing tracks leading back from the past.
Healing Scars is an in-development expression of the self-healing journey First People take in reconciling the grief of loss from injustice crossing multiple lifetimes.
First Developed at the 10th anniversary Yellamundie Festival in 2023. Healing Scars was one of six newly developed performing art works across playwriting, sound and movement. Since its inception in 2013, the Yellamundie Festival has risen as an international beacon for First Peoples talent.
